Maspalomas or Puerto Rico? The liveliest fun day out to be had in the Canaries, is a day in one of the two fantastic water theme parks that the island has to offer.
When the hot summer climate of Gran Canaria reaches its peak in the summer months, the over heated visitors to the island look for the coolest and most refreshing activity with which to pass their time. Water ParksWater Parks have been a long time favourite with children of all ages, and that includes the bigger kids of forty and over! Gran Canaria has two wonderful water parks to offer, that both have their own distinguishing features. From toboggans with rubber rings included or the hair raising kamikaze slides that add a major thrill for the excitement seeker, or a chance just to float away the days on a long, slow lazy river and soak up the rays while you’re at it. A Family Day OutA water park is an ideal place to pass a summer holiday day out with all the family. Entrance prices to the parks have risen quite steeply in the last two years, so it may be a fun day out, but not the cheapest. Separate charges are made for sun bed and the hire of parasols, and there is a nominal fee for the use of lockers if you need one to keep valuables in. Water Park Height RestrictionsIt is a common rule in all water parks throughout Europe, that the accessibility to the rides is determined, not by age, but by height. To be able to enjoy the fun of the big slides it is necessary to reach the required height measurement of at least one metre and twenty centimetres. This rule also applies, but in reverse to the special children’s attractions in the parks. The Biggest Water Park in the CanariesThe biggest water park in the Canaries, Aqualand, is situated in the dry valley at the back of the resort of Maspalomas. To reach the park there are excellent regular bus services from all of the main holiday spots, that drop the guests directly in front of the entrance gate. The park opens daily throughout the year; not closing even for the well loved Canarian fiesta days and it’s customary to find long queues at the doors in the summer months, as the expectant public wait patiently for their day of fun to begin. Aqualand in MaspalomasAqualand has an amazing thirty three different slides that will keep even the fittest gasping for breath between rides. Definitely one of the most popular and most unusual is the Tornado ride; with its huge curves and a funnel exit, it has been compared to the experience of being flushed down a toilet! Puerto Rico’s Water ParkA well established park that has been open for almost twenty five years; in the ultimate three, it has undergone an amazing transformation and is now a water `fantasy´ park. The decoration is fantastic and visually transports the visitors into a child’s fairy story. Atlántida is a Water Fantasy ParkThe choice of slides and toboggans are somewhat limited in Atlantida, but the main bonus of "no queues", which means more ride time, is a great advantage, especially in the very busy months of high summer. Atlántida in Puerto Rico is an excellent choice for a day out if you have very small children travelling with you. The special children’s park area and slides are well planned, and it’s easy to keep an eye on energetic youngsters as you enjoy a relaxing day.
