In Gran Canaria’s most compact holiday resort, Puerto Rico, the amazing variety of Irish bars is truly unbelievable. Each pub has it’s own individual character, and of course, it’s own imported Irish musician. With a good balance between tradition and crowd rousing entertainment, it would be difficult not to find a bar that suited even the most discerning of taste.
Tradition and a Whistle
In the long established bar called Molly Malone’s traditional music is played nightly by Anton, the bars owner and always first in the queue for the Guinness. As he strums all the most popular Irish tunes on his guitar, and sips away at his pint, he’s accompanied by Jacky, Puerto Rico’s only tin whistle player. The soft ballads and Irish airs that he plays add a particularly pleasant, and very tuneful atmosphere, to this very friendly bar.
Best Pub for Karaoke in Puerto Rico
Scruffy Murphy’s is large air-condioned pub on the top floor of Puerto Rico's main shopping centre. If you fancy your chances as a pub singer then Scruffy's is the place to head for. After the resident band have finished their nightly gig, then it's time for the customers to take their turn and the Karaoke continues the evenings fun right through until the early hours of the morning. You won't get away with being shy in Scruffy's.
Dicey Reilly’s for Terrace Drinking
Dicey Reilly’s is Puerto Rico’s biggest Irish bar; it’s wooden walls are decorated with football paraphenalia that give it that typical pub atmosphere. The huge outside terrace is a good place for summer drinking, there it’s possible to watch the world walk past while sipping at the very refreshing Guinness.
Dicey’s present the Irish musician, Finnbarr Noonan as the resident guitar player, while Tommy Tucker keeps him company on stage and drives the crowd to it’s nightly manic frenzy.

With so many Irish pubs to choose from in such a such a small place as Puerto Rico, it’s relatively easy to get round them all in one night; the best one will be the one that’s still serving after closing time and then it's time to hit the wild nightlife.
On the subject of drink, The Hogs who are the resident band in the small bar called McGowans, admit to having an obsession with the liquid potion. They think about it and sing about it, as well as being very musically talented.
Stevie York is Still Harping On
One of the funniest comedians to come out of Ireland has been resident in Puerto Rico for many years. The infamous Stevie York, best known for his off-the-cuff jokes and very below the belt comments, can be seen every night in the Harp bar on the top floor of Puerto Rico's main shopping centre.
