Fun and Entertainment in Gran Canaria’s Family Holiday Resort

As with many of the resorts in Gran Canaria; the majority of the bars and restaurants are concentrated in specialised commercial centres, of which Puerto Rico has two.

Puerto Rico’s Main Shopping Centre

Always buzzing with life in the evenings, the biggest of Puerto Rico’s shopping centres is a maze of fun bars and places to eat out. The shopping centre is a two storied construction, while the shops are on the ground level; the bars are situated on the higher level of the second floor.

Fun Pubs and Karaoke

The night scene kicks off late in Puerto Rico and many of the bars don’t get busy until around ten o’clock in the evening. A short stroll around the top floor of the centre will take about five minutes, and make it simple to find the type of entertainment that is right for your family. A good all rounder is the La Fiesta Bar, who have a range of family orientated activities nightly, as well as games and competitions, karaoke and much more.

If You Want to be Wild Go To Harleys Dancing

Puerto Rico’s wildest bar has to be Harley's Dancing. Harley’s is the busiest and most popular bar in the summer months, when the young crowds spill over onto the outside terrace. All the rage with the girls is the shirtless waiters as they dance bare-chested on the table tops!

Disco Scene

There is really only one late night club in Puerto Rico itself and that is Jokers nightclub.The discotheque is in the basement of the shopping centre and stays open until around six thirty in the morning. Its lively Canarian disc jockeys attract large Spanish crowds during the weekends and in the summer months.

Europa Shopping Centre

This small shopping centre is a little out of the way, and at the top of a very steep hill, so a taxi ride to reach it is an added expense to the evening’s fun. The centre has many small bars, where it is possible to sit and chat without having to raise your voice above blaring disco music. The Europa Centre is a place to visit if you are staying in that area, but truthfully not worth going out of your way for.

Show Time

The bar-restaurant called the Barbacoa; which is located just outside of the Europa Shopping Centre, is a long established family entertainment pub that has been offering the same, mediocre shows and acts for almost twenty years. The entrance is free, to watch the three different acts nightly, though expect to pay quite well over normal prices for the locally produced drinks.
