» Amanda Kendle - Better paranoid than passport-less!

Thanks for your sensible passport safeguarding advice, Barbara! Sometimes my co-travelers think I'm a little paranoid when it comes to keeping my eyes on my passport. But 40 countries later I've never lost it, so I continue to follow a similar regime to you. Sometimes hotels (or esp some hostels) are really reluctant to give it back, but usually if I offer my drivers licence or similar in exchange, I can get my most valued document back.
cheers

That's a really good idea, Amanda. My husband has found a good way to get his passport back immediately -- he had been hiking through the jungle all day in Tikal, Guatemala, and when he took his passport out of his body wallet it was literally soggy. The woman at the hotel desk wouldn't even touch it, let alone keep it.
