» karenbryan - Less Well Known Lake Iseo

I would advocate that you will get a more authentic flavour of Italy, if you venture, even slightly off the beaten track. You will also avoid the tourist traps and crowds and get better value for money.

I'll give an example. When most people think of the Italian lakes they think of Lake Como or Garda. However the less well known Lake Iseo is really beautiful. I have written a guide to the lake

I agree completely. While I love Lake Como's dramatic scenery and villas, the experience on Lake Iseo is far more Italian, with lower prices and without the crowds. My favorite places are Monte Iseo (Europe's largest lake island, home to an active fishing community) and the Medieval frescoes in the little churches at the north of the lake. And farther north is the Valle Comonica, with a national park filled with hundreds of Bronze Age rock inscriptions. A lot to see there, and some pretty dramatic scenery of its own -- including towns perched on high cliffs above the lake.

Karen, your guide to Lake Iseo is excellent, and I highly recommend it!
