» Stillman Rogers - Madernassa Pears in Italy's Piedmont

In your article on the Alba White Truffle Festival you mention Madernassa pears. Are they a special variety? I've never heard of them.

In response to Madernassa Pears in Italy's Piedmont posted by tr6:

They are a very old local variety, unknown outside of the Piemonte. They are crisp, have a good flavor and hold their shape well when cooked. They are used locally in baking and to make a delicious preserve that is served with the local goat cheese.
