No visit to Southern Italy is complete without a visit to the magical Blue Grotto. Weather permitting, I wouldn't miss it.-- posted by Travelfiend

I agree! When I was visiting Capri, local friends discouraged me, saying the Blue Grotto was a tourist thing. But I was a tourist, so I ignored them and went anyway -- and was so glad I did. On a sunny day, the blue light is breathtaking. Capri has a lot to see -- thanks for reminding me that I have not done an article about it!

What makes the grotto blue? Is it the water or in the stone?

The intense blue glow inside the sea cave appears to come from the water itself, but it is actually sunlight shining through a passageway under the water and shining up through it to light the cave.
